The implementation of standing desks could potentially save the lives of your employees, or at least keep them alive longer. The American Cancer Society performed a study that found women who sat for more than six hours a day had a 40% more chance of dying during the study than women who did not sit for that long, for men it was 20% more. Sitting for long periods of time is also linked to cardiovascular disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and depression.
Meditation can be a great health solution for your office. You do not necessarily need to have a meditation room in your building, but maybe dedicating an area as a quiet zone or even just a particular time as the quiet hour can give people the space and time they need to refocus with meditation. It is a great tool to clear the mind in order to get moving with more work. Sometimes we become so bogged down with life that we just need to take a few moments to breathe and clear our heads.
A Quick Walk
It is recommended that people with office jobs take a five to ten minute break each hour with a quick walk around the office. Maybe you can go visit with a colleague for a few minutes, grab something to drink, go to the restroom, or anything that will get you up and moving for a few minutes every hour. Physical movement also helps the brain kick back into gear with clarity.
